[caption id="attachment_614" align="aligncenter" width="500"]Dlala Thukzin Songs Gqom & Amapiano[/caption]Dlala Thukzin is a South African dance music producer who was born Thuthuka Zindlovu in 1997 and has a varied palette that allows him to move fluidly between Afrotech, gqom, amapiano, and other genres. While growing up in Lamontville, Durban in the 2000s, Thukzin assisted his deejay uncle in moving sound equipment to concerts, a chore that eventually pulled him into DJing and music creation.
He made his debut as a producer on Babes Wodumo’s 2016 debut album, Gqom Queen, Vol. 1, which helped mainstream the Durban-born genre. Thukzin’s 2021 hit “Phuze” was one of his first successful amapiano efforts, merging the popular genre’s lush pads with thwacking percussion from gqom. Permanent Music (2020) and Permanent Music 2 (2021) exhibit his ability to embrace new sounds while keeping a gqom accent.
